The origins of the BBQ sauce are unclear. It was probably invented between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries in the United States by settlers from Europe. It turns out that the first BBQ sauce recipe was written by hand in 1900, and found in the Johnson & Wales College of Culinary Arts library, and only in 1926 the recipe was standardized by a large American company.
