To spread on bread, as a filling for croissants, to stuff tarts and cakes, to sweeten yogurt.
In ancient times the only known strawberry was the wild variety, which grew spontaneously in the woods of whole Europe. The bigger fruit plant was absent, until in 1714 a French lieutenant offered to the Sun King a strawberry from Chile: mixing the 2 varieties, they obtained the actual strawberries, now spread in all Europe. To prepare our preserve we use just strawberries and cane sugar.
