The apricot tree comes from the border between China and Russia, and its cultivation slowly spread towards West, in central Asia, until reaching Armenia where Alexander the Great discovered it. The Romans introduced it in Italy and Greece around 70-60 BC, and thanks to the Arabs the apricot tree thrived in the whole Mediterranena basin: the name its lef comes from the arab word al-barqūq.
